Colbert began his political career under the guidance of Cardinal Mazarin, serving as his superintendent for a period of time. In the late 1650s, he held the position of Intendant of Finances, and in 1661, Colbert became the successor of Fouquet. In 1669, he was appointed as the Minister of State. Colbert also held the position of Chief Intendant of Royal Buildings, Fine Arts, and Manufactures. His workday lasted approximately 15 hours
